Board of Directors

AHIMA is the leading voice of health information (HI), and its board of directors plays a key role in guiding the vision, mission, and strategic direction of the organization. Their experience and deep understanding of HI helps AHIMA lean into the future and forecast where healthcare will move next.

The board of directors holds and exercises all corporate authority and fiduciary duties of AHIMA except as otherwise provided by law, AHIMA's Articles of Incorporation, or these AHIMA Bylaws.

Advocacy & Policy Council

The Advocacy and Policy Council advises our leadership and Board of Directors on critical areas for AHIMA’s strategic engagement in advocacy and public policy that align with our mission and vision.

AHIMA Council for Excellence in Education™ (CEE)

Health information is complex, nuanced, and ever-changing. The Council for Excellence in Education™ (CEE) was created to enhance the health information profession, plan for its future through education, and provide HI professionals with a way to get involved in the process.

The CEE advises AHIMA on education and workforce matters and their collective expertise strengthens the organization’s vision, mission, and strategies set by the AHIMA Board of Directors. The CEE also guides various AHIMA workgroups and the Professional Certificate Approval Program.

AHIMA Foundation

AHIMA Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and philanthropic arm of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) dedicated to empowering people with health information literacy to achieve better health outcomes. Established in 1962, AHIMA Foundation programs, research, and projects continue to evolve ─ helping families make informed health decisions, guiding evidence-based healthcare system policies and practices, and educating and training aspiring and current health information professionals. Recognizing that health information is human information, AHIMA Foundation works extensively to convene interdisciplinary stakeholders to identify unmet public health and education needs. International Advisory Council 

AHIMA is updating its approach to our international work with a regional advisory council model. The role of the AHIMA International Regional Advisory Councils is to help AHIMA expand the reach of its international brand and elevate its position within the healthcare ecosystem. The council advises the international work of AHIMA by helping advance the mission and vision of AHIMA, and by helping maintain a future focus orientation for the organization.

CEO Advisory Council 

The CEO Advisory Council has the responsibility of advising AHIMA’s CEO. They also help advance the mission and vision of AHIMA by sharing knowledge and counsel on various business matters, providing credibility through their names and reputations, and by helping AHIMA maintain a focus on the future.
