AHIMA is proud to offer our members the AHIMA Leadership Development Academy.

The AHIMA Leadership Development Academy aims to cultivate early career leaders within the health information (HI) profession, providing them with essential leadership skills and opportunities for advancement. This structured program will address the current gap in leadership development within AHIMA, fostering a diverse talent pool for future leadership roles.

 

Candidate Requirements

Component Association.

Candidates must agree to participate in all elements of the Leadership Development Academy (i.e., attend all meetings, etc.) and demonstrate engagement in each element. Candidates will be asked to complete a pre- and post-program survey for feedback to inform future program enhancements.

Timeline

The 10-month Academy includes both virtual and in-person components.

  • November 1 – November 30, 2024: Application period
  • December 2024: Cohort selection
  • January and February 2025: Academy commences with a virtual course
  • March 17-18, 2025: In-person session in Washington D.C.
  • May through September 2025: Virtual courses
  • October 2025: Final in-person session culminating with graduation in Minneapolis, MN

FAQs

What is the time commitment?

Approximately 20 hours of instruction/hands on learning from January through October 2025.

Who can apply?

Premier or professional members of AHIMA with a minimum of two years of leadership experience in a healthcare organization, the AHIMA House of Delegates, or a Component Association.

Who is the faculty?

AHIMA leadership and Board members and external subject matter experts.

Will CEUs be offered?

Not at this time, but AHIMA will evaluate this option upon completion of the pilot class.
