In collaboration with its members, industry leaders, and national healthcare organizations, AHIMA developed an advocacy agenda that will be leveraged to influence the public policy environment to benefit health information professionals, patients, and communities.
The AHIMA Advocacy Summit is where health leaders and policymakers come together to address important key policy issues related to health data and health information. The two-day event, taking place March 17-18, 2025, in Washington, DC, includes a Public Policy Institute on Day 1 and Capitol Hill Day on Day 2. This is a unique opportunity for AHIMA members to meet their local elected official and have their voices heard on behalf of their HI community.
The Public Policy Institute is comprised of educational sessions focusing on issues including artificial intelligence, patient matching, social determinants of health, global health, and more.
Capitol Hill Day is for AHIMA members only. AHIMA members will advocate for issues impacting the health information profession to their elected officials, in person, at our Capitol Hill Day.

Who attends the AHIMA Hill Day?
AHIMA members that register for the full two-day Advocacy Summit prior to February 17, 2025, will be scheduled for Capitol Hill Day visits on March 18, 2025. Because of the time necessary to schedule meetings with congressional offices, AHIMA members registering after Monday, February 17, 2025, will only be eligible to attend the Day 1 Policy Institute.
How long does Capitol Hill Day Last?
Meetings may be scheduled at any time from 9 a.m.– 3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. Please ensure that your travel plans allow you to attend Capitol Hill meetings that end as late as 3:00 PM.
Can I send a substitute if I am unable to attend?
Substitutions (that is, assigning a paid registration to another individual) must be requested no later than Monday, February 17, 2025. This provides AHIMA staff time to secure congressional appointments for the substitute attendee.
To submit a request for substitution, requests must be submitted to advocacy@ahima.org. Please include that the request is for the 2025 Advocacy Summit, as well as the following information of the registrant and substitute registrant: first and last name, home address, cell phone number, email address, job title, employer, and order reference number. Notification of approval will be made within seven days of receipt of the request.
What is the AHIMA cancellation policy if I am unable to attend?
If you are unable to attend, AHIMA provides full refunds less a $50 processing fee for registration cancellations made by Monday, February 17, 2025. No refunds are provided after Monday, February 17, 2025. All refunds are processed within 30 days of receipt.
Can I attend Hill Day (Day 2) without attending the Day 1 Policy Institute?
If you are planning to attend Capitol Hill Day, you must register for the full Advocacy Summit and attend the Policy Institute on Day 1. Attending the Policy Institute will ensure that members have the appropriate context and background and will be aligned with AHIMA national legislative efforts and messaging on Capitol Hill. It will also help reduce confusion in setting up appointments with congressional staff and members of Congress.
Will all congressional meetings be in person?
We expect nearly all congressional meetings to be held in-person on Capitol Hill during Advocacy Summit. Should one of your congressional meetings be virtual, we will assist so that you may attend the meeting virtually.
What are the best ways to get around Washington D.C.?
